ASTROLOGY

Jesus said;

Matt. 24:29: Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

This description of the sun and moon described in Matthew chapter 24, is almost identical to the sun and moon mentioned in the 6th chapter of the Book of Revelation's where it says;

Rev. 6:12: And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; AND THE SUN BECAME BLACK (darkened) AS SACKCLOTH OF HAIR; AND THE MOON BECAME AS BLOOD;

This scripture of Revelations 6, is very similar to the scripture in Matt. 24, it says;

Matt. 24:29: Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

30: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, AND THEY SHALL SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING IN THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN WITH POWER AND GREAT GLORY.

To understand the term that Jesus used when he said; THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE HER LIGHT we will have to take a short course in astrology.

The Groliers Encyclopedia says of the word "astrology;"

Astrology

Astrology is the use of astronomical phenomena TO PREDICT EARTHLY AND HUMAN EVENTS, in terms of an assumed theoretical system. In its earliest form astrology consisted of simple omens that astrologers read from the sky. In its mature form astrology analyzes THE SUPPOSED EFFECTS OF THE SUN, MOON, PLANETS, AND STARS ON THE EARTH for a specific time and place. Although historically the meanings of the terms astronomy and astrology sometimes overlapped, astronomy has been concerned only with determining the positions and physical properties of celestial bodies. Natural astrology, on the other hand, assumed that a generalized CELESTIAL INFLUENCE AFFECTED WEATHER, CROPS, AND OTHER PHENOMENON RELATED TO WHOLE NATIONS OF PEOPLE; judicial astrology made specific predictions about the future of individuals.

Notice here that the basics of astrology say that "THE SUN, THE MOON, AND THE STARS" control events that happen here upon the earth. The Groliers Encyclopedia continues and says;

History

ASTROLOGY ORIGINATED IN ANCIENT BABYLON and spread from there to China, India, and the West, where different but related traditions grew up. Although astrology has persisted to the present day, enjoying greater popularity in some countries than in others, it has never attracted more than an occasional scientist to its ranks since the 17th century. Periods of resurgence may correspond with times of uncertainty, especially when science and technology seem unable to provide acceptable solutions to pressing problems and when many people seem to seek a more mystical and spiritual mode of understanding the world. Many contemporary works of astrology use the terminology of recent psychological theories.

THE ZODIAC

Astrology originated in Ancient Babylon and is actually a pagan religion. The stars, planets are all named after pagan deities and are symbolic of the world's pagan nations, and their gods. These pagan religions include the worship of the sun and the moon. Many people in today's world use astrology and follow its celestial signs to provide guidance for their lives, especially when science and technology seem unable to provide acceptable solutions to their questions. Many people use astrology to seek a more mystical and spiritual mode of understanding the world.

The dictionary says of the word "astrology;"

as·trol·o·gy (…-str¼l"…-j) n. Abbr. astrol. 1. The study of the positions and aspects of celestial bodies IN THE BELIEF THAT THEY HAVE AN INFLUENCE ON THE COURSE OF NATURAL EARTHLY OCCURRENCES AND HUMAN AFFAIRS. 2. Obsolete. Astronomy. --as·trol"o·ger n. --as"tro·log"i·cal (²s"tr…-l¼j"¹-k…l) or as"tro·log"ic adj. --as"tro·log"i·cal·ly adv.

The Interpreter's Bible Dictionary says of the word "astrology;"

The art of foretelling the future by charting and studying the relative positions of the sun, moon, stars, and planets. In the sense of reading omens from the celestial phenomena.

The dictionary says of the word "celestial;"

ce·les·tial (s…-lµs"ch…l) adj. 1. Of or relating to the sky or the heavens. 2. Of or relating to heaven; divine.

The Interpreter's Bible Dictionary says that astrology is the art of foretelling the future. Astrologers foretell the future by charting and studying the relative positions of the SUN, AND THE MOON, AND THE STARS, AND THE PLANETS. Astrologers interpret these celestial alignments of the sun, moon and the stars to determine whether there will be good or bad omens. They believe that these omens will determine future events that will happen here on this earth.

The Interpreters Bible continues and says;

Astrology originated in Ancient Babylon and went hand in hand with the development with the precise mathematical astronomy.

Under the Assyrians, astronomical omens were systematically sought and regularly reported to the reigning monarch.

The longing to ascertain what the future had in store for the individual or society gave rise to the pseudo science of astrology. The Babylonians minutely observed the heavenly bodies and Egyptian astrologers in the belief that the various conjunctions occurring in the sky foretell future events that will take place on the earth.

Astrology, to judge from the evidence of the Old Testament, was unknown in Ancient Israel, and the few passages that mention astrologers refer to the Babylonian practice. Isaiah scornfully points to the Babylonian astrologers when he says;

Isa. 47:13: You are wearied with your many counsels; let them stand forth and save you, those who will divide the heavens, who gaze at the stars, who at the new moons predict what will befall you.

Jeremiah admonishes the people not to be terrified by the "SIGNS OF THE HEAVENS" because the other heathen nations are dismayed at them he says.

Jer. 10:1: Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:

2: Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

Also in Daniel;

Dan. 2:27: Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king;

Dan. 4:6: Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.

7: Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.

THE ZODIAC

The Grolier's Encyclopedia says of the word "zodiac;"

Zodiac

The zodiac is the portion of the CELESTIAL SPHERE that lies within 8 deg on either side of the ECLIPTIC. The apparent paths of THE SUN, AND THE MOON, with the exception of some portions of the path of Pluto, lie within this band. Twelve divisions, or signs, each 30 deg in width, comprise the zodiac. These signs coincided with the zodiacal constellations about 2,000 years ago. Because of the precession of the Earth's axis, the vernal equinox has moved westward by about 30 deg since that time; the signs have moved with it and thus no longer coincide with the constellations. THE SIGNS OF THE SUN, AND THE MOON ARE CONSIDERED TO BE OF GREAT IMPORTANCE TO ASTROLOGERS (see astrology). J. M. A. Danby

According to the above information astrologers look for signs in the SUN and the MOON and the stars to predict things that will happen here on earth. These astrological signs supposedly help them make right decisions that will increase their fortunes, and foretell of future catastrophes, etc..

It is common knowledge that Nancy Reagan, the wife of former President Reagan, always consulted an astrologer when there were decisions to be made concerning the Presidency of the United States. She even consulted an astrologer to choose the best time for President Reagan's swearing in ceremony during his inauguration. Nancy Reagan's personal astrologer looked at the lineup of the SUN, MOON, AND THE STARS etc., to pick the best time for swearing Mr. Reagan into the office of the President of the United States of America.
